The flat classroom project is a global collaborative project for students mainly for grades 3-12 founded by Vicki Davis and Julie Lindsay in 2006. It is a Web 2.0 tool for communication and collaboration between students and teachers from classrooms around the world. The idea was inspired from topics in the book “The World is Flat” by Thomas Friedman. The whole idea of the project is to flatten or lower the classroom walls so that the classes don’t work isolated and alone but two or more classes can be joined virtually and become one large classroom. In a world that is hyper connected, it is important that students gain an understanding of other people and places. With this project every classroom can be a global classroom and students can learn more in-depth. Today, there are training for these classrooms with workshop and solution centers offered.
